What’s Nearby?

Dean Forest Retreats has an enviable location, situated right in the heart of the Forest of Dean, with its major attractions all within a 10 mile radius. The Wye Valley is also within striking distance with famous spots such as Tintern Abbey and Symonds Yat and the historic towns of Chepstow, Ross-on-Wye and Monmouth all within a half an hour drive.

Walking & Cycling

In the immediate vicinity, there are a number of tracks through the woods within walking distance of the property.  Just turn right or left out of the drive and head up into the forest through the various paths/forestry commission tracks. Local maps including popular walking and cycle routes are provided for guests to borrow during their stay.  We also offer a safe lockable facility for bikes onsite.  The Forest of Dean is well known as a mountain-biking mecca and there are many routes through the forest.  The Forest of Dean Cycle Centre in Cannop has routes for all ages and abilities

If you prefer quieter spots, then we would recommend New Fancy, Soudley Ponds and the Cyril Hart Arboretum / Spruce Ride.  There are also hundreds of Forestry tracks where you can just pull up and walk or cycle.

The Wyedean Tourism website has lots of ideas for days out/cycle routes/walks/eating out
